What Is Article Marketing?

What Is Article Marketing?

Article Marketing is basically when someone writes a piece of content (text articles) and distributes them to online platforms such as article directories, forums and newsletter publishers, as well as offline media such as magazines and newspapers. Article Marketing is perfect for anyone who is selling their own product, affiliate products, or simply wants to get traffic to an opt-in page, an AdSense site, or a site full of affiliate links. Marketing with articles is not only very effective, but it’s also quite inexpensive way market your business.

There are many ways that Article Marketing can help your business grow. For example, articles have a tendency to become viral, so your message gets spread all over the internet … which in turn increases your traffic and sales (which is gathered from the links you set up in your articles). Having articles published in a variety of places also builds your credibility by establishing yourself as ‘THE EXPERT’ in your niche.

The process in Article Marketing:
  • You write articles about your niche.
  • Add links to your article pointing towards your product or affiliate offer. *Please note, some sites do not allow you to insert links into your article content, but you will still be able to add a link at the bottom of the article (usually the author resource box area).
  • Submit the articles to popular article directory websites or even forums.
  • The search engines will ‘pick them up.’
  • When someone reads your article and clicks on the link you added in it, the person will be taken to your link page and this is where you can make sales, get opt-in signups, or earn affiliate commissions.

Here’s how it’s done:

Let’s say for example you’re in the diet niche, and you sell multiple diet products. You write a diet article that is closely related to one of your products, but you don’t advertise your product in the article. Instead, in your article you discuss a particular problem that your product can help solve.

So if you’re selling a diet pill, you can write an article about the dangers of obesity, what causes it, and how to combat it. You should try to make your article be at least 400 – 700 words. Remember, people have a short attention span!

At the conclusion of your article, you will want to include an author’s resource box. This is basically a block of text (usually 3-5 lines) that tells a little about yourself and gives the reader a compelling reason to click on your link. Here’s an example:

Sheryl Lynn is a leading diet expert who has helped thousands of overweight people lose weight and get healthy. You will find more valuable diet  information at his website

Successful Article Marketing campaigns

To ensure your Article Marketing success, there’s a couple of things that you would want to keep in mind when writing your articles:

Targeted Keywords and Keyword Phrases

Your articles needs to have the keywords and phrases that are related to your site. For example, if you maintain an auto parts site, you must be able to have articles about cars and their parts. There are many tools (like the Google Keyword Planner) that can help in determining what keywords and keyword phrases are mostly sought out. You can use this tool to determine what keywords to use and write about for your article.

Targeted keywords/phrases helps readers find relevant articles that they are searching for (your article), and therefore send real targeted people to your offer/site.

Keyword Density (Relevance today)

Keyword density is the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase is used in an article. Some people say (most people still do) – in order to have your article ‘noticed’ by search engines, you need to repeat your keywords/phrases multiple times in your article. Well, it may be true BEFORE, but it is not the case anymore. Instead, repeating the keywords too many times might seem ‘spammy’ and get your article devalued by search engines.

So here’s what you do – You still need to have the keywords and phrases you want to rank for in your article. It may be repeated in your article too. But more importantly, your article needs to have good content that is relevant and useful for the readers, and of course it must be well written too. This is what search engines like Google likes!

*So the better your content, the higher chances your article will appear in search engines. And don’t forget, when people love reading something (your article), they would naturally share it with others too.

Linking Articles

DON’T ever forget to include a link to your site! Whether you’ve included links within the article, it’s always good practice to put a brief description of your site at the ‘resource box’ and placed right after your articles that you have submitted. If people like your articles, they will most likely click on the link directing them to your site.

Good Article Content

Like what is stated above, you cannot just riddle an article with keywords. They must also be regarded as good reading materials. Articles must be able to entertain people as well as provide good information and help for their needs. Articles should be written well with correct spelling and good grammar. If you want people to trust you, make your work good and well thought out.

People respond well to figures, facts and statistics. Try to get great information and as many facts as you can. A good and well written article will boost your reputation as an expert in your chosen field or topic. As more people believe in you. They will be able to trust you and your products.

Where to publish your articles?

There are thousands of sites (article directories, forums etc) that you could submit your article to. There are free sites and there are also paid sites. Below are just some example of directory sites that you can check out:

Article Marketing is not only a great to promote products and generate revenue, but it also gives you an authority to represent yourself as an expert in your niche (thus, help you and your business grow further in that industry).
