Maharaja Wana

The Story

The ‘wayang kulit’ (shadow play) in Malaysia tells the tales derived from the famous Indian epic Ramayana, or as the localized Malay folk version called Hikayat Maharaja Wana or Hikayat Seri Rama.

Maharaja Wana, a shadow puppet character, is known as an evil and cruel emperor and is Seri Rama’s arch enemy. He has tried in many occasions to kidnap Sita Dewi to make her his wife, forcing Sri Rama to go through many struggles in rescuing her.
